Rob Miller Stirs Up Aiken County Democrats!

After remembering the anniversary of this day, our meeting started with news that Aiken County Democrats' efforts on GOTV were being noticed by the state party.

Stuart Bedenbaugh of Aiken County Board of Elections spoke about voting and registering to vote. He said that all registration forms must be in by October 4th, (the office at 916 Vaucluse Rd will be open 9 AM to 12 Noon) and if mailed, they must be postmarked no later than October 4th, 2008. Another point he said, make sure you put your mailing address when filling out the voter registration form, otherwise the Board of Elections will not be able to send you a voter card. And if you moved, you need to re-register so that you know which precinct to vote. Even if you have voted before, and haven't voted in a while, he advised that you check to see if you are registered NOW by calling 803-642-2028, before the office gets too busy. This can be done online, also.

He announced changes in polling places:
	•	Precinct 11 will be at the Elks Club
	•	Precinct 14 will be at Old Time Baptist Church
	•	Precinct 22 will be at Montmorenci Baptist Church
	•	Precinct 68 will be at Mossy Creek Elementary School

He wanted us to make voters aware that if you vote a straight-party ticket, those running for school board will not be included. So make sure you take the time to go through the whole ballot!

Other things he wanted us to know:

If you are voting absentee by mail, info here, MAKE SURE IT IS SIGNED AND YOU HAVE A WITNESS SIGNATURE BEFORE YOU MAIL IT IN.

If voting absentee in person, instead of the going to the Board of Elections at 619 Vaucluse Rd, go to Kalmia Mall near Eejays. It will start October 19th and open at 1:30 PM til 4 PM.

Satellite in-person absentee voting stations will take place
	• Nancy Carson Library, October 17, 20, 23, 24, at 12 Noon til 4 PM
	• Roy Warner Park, October 22 at 11 AM til 3 PM

Rob Miller, candidate for the 2nd Congressional District made an appearance.

Rob, a two-tour Iraqi vet, retired as a Marine Captain February 15, 2008, now a small business owner, told us why he decided to run on February 16th. During his 2nd tour, he realized America was on the wrong path. When he came home, he saw the deteriorating conditions of everyday life for the people of his district and the rest of America.

He stated what he feels is most important to accomplish for the health and security of the US. His priorities are to reduce the deficit, invest in America, access to healthcare for children 18 and under, and strong public schools with local control. He said that he wants our kids to get an debt-free education, so that they could start out in life - with a living-wage job, which they could then pay back into the system for the future generation, and where they could buy a house, get married, and raise a family with security. Read more about Rob Miller at his website.

John Brecht, our county chairman, said that Aiken County has 2 representatives from the Obama Campaign working with us for the 2008 campaign.

He then wanted us to mark our calendars for our Fish Fry fund-raising event which is October 9th. Headlining our speakers at this event will be Inez Tenebaum. The other speakers will be all our candidates in our area.
